MGMT GOES R&B

I know this is the 30 billionth cover of Kids by MGMT I've posted since I started this thang, but I couldn't resist, once again. Also, I'm a sucker for covers, but I'm sure you have no issues with that. B.O.B. who you probably know from a variety of venues released this rendition of Kids not long ago, and I think it's pretty dope to hear an R&B artist do anything but R&B, especially something electronic. He 100% pulls it off by making it his own and adding subtleties most hip hop centric artists would not. Oh and also, the velveteen approves. Duh.

TONIGHT, TONIGHT / DREAMS

Call me crazy, but I'm in a cover song state of mind. I can't get enough and these two will tell you why. Passion Pit has re-released their sophomore album MANNERS with a few new tracks and some redic covers. Let em' rip, thank me later.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

Just when I thought this song couldn't get any better, I come across a remix like this. And the best thing of all - it lasts over six minutes. Proof that no matter how you arrange this track, it still leaves the same impression. Thank god for the temper trap.

CITIZEN COPE

After spending a week in Denver, my heart skipped a hippy beat and suddenly my iTunes was filled with tree hugging lullabies. This track is off Citizen Cope's February EP, and it's a beautiful arrangement. Super chill and quite memorable. Enjoy.

BREAT EASTON ELLIS / RADIOHEAD / MIAMI / KID CUDI

Piece of news 1: Bret Easton Ellis's new novel IMPERIAL BEDROOMS is out on bookshelves. It's a delayed sequel to his bestselling rookie novel LESS THAN ZERO, and picks up with the same dysfunctional characters in their middle age. Just got my copy today. And on top of that, he's doing a reading / book signing at the B&N in Union Square tomorrow at 7 pm. I'll be there.

Piece of news 2: Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien revealed to BBC Radio that the band is at the tail end of their newest album which will hopefully come out this year! He called the music "very different from "In Rainbows" and genuinely exciting."

Piece of news 3: My Miami grupo, I'm coming to the 305 this weekend via a rental car roadtrip with my brother. Chillo is calling my name, and as creative director of the brand, duty calls, and I'll probably be around for a month. My schedule is wide open so let the booking begin.

And now, back to the music...

Kid Cudi has been spending mucho tiempo in Hawaii apparently, getting extremely high and recording his new album. Guess what, the first single was leaked, and you can listen to it right now. High or not, me likey this track.

INSPIRATION (UNO)

NEXT THING, WE'RE TOUCHING. (OH YA, AND MIIKE SNOW IS BACK)

I posted a remix of this Brits' track "Starry Eyed" when I first started the velveteen. It's weird yet amazing when you hear a remix and get used to it before hearing the original, which was the case here. The original has mad energy, her voice is ridiculous, and the sound sucks you in immediately. Lots of talent up in here. I think you'll fancy it, so give it a go and press play.

And if that's not enough to get you in the mood for a drink, a cig, a glass of wine, or an 18 block walk with headphones pressed tightly over your summer hathead, I suggest you download this new release courtesy of Miike Snow, which they performed at Bonaroo and just released a video for. This squad of Swedes could do no wrong in my unwritten book of right & wrong. Please come perform in NYC soon.

JE M'APPELLE TODD

French pop is always a good thing. And after seeing Get him to the Greek in Denver, (which is by the way an A+ comedy) I pulled out my berry mid-scene and texted myself a reminder to stalk the internet for this jam as soon as I got back to Canal Street. Lo and behold, the velveteen tracked it down. Don't get me wrong, it took a lot of effort, lots of yawns, and lots of "aw shit man's." This mp3 was not an easy find, but clearly, the ending to this story is a happy one. Enjoy this track, it's easily a highlight of Q2 2010.

LOVE AT FIRST LISTEN

I'm off to JFK headed for Denver but I wanted to leave you with a treat. This song is by a new band on my radar, Two Door Cinema Club. It's a remix by "The Twelves" which is never a bad thing. Very playlist worthy, enjoy, and I'll be back from Denver on Monday with lots of good shit to share.

SET ME FREE WHY DON'T YA BABE

Fuck Monday. Cannot wait for Mark Ronson to release his new album. His little sis told me he's in the studio right now and I'm sure it's gonna be hot hot hot. This track is an oldie but a goodie and it features Aussie act + Ronson pal Daniel Merriweather.
